FIRE DEPARTMENT SERVICES...

The Glenwood Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS) to the community in a cost-efficient operation.  The Department's personnel include five full-time and twenty-eight Paid-On-Call (P.O.C.) Firefighters.  The P.O.C. Firefighters carry pagers to alert them to respond when needed.
The Village has two fire stations.  Station 1 is located at 605 E. Glenwood-Lansing Road.  Station 2 is located at Arquilla and Roberts Drive.  The Fire Department has four fire trucks and several transport vehicles.  A new 109-foot aerial ladder truck and a new pumper truck have recently been placed in service.  The Village also has automatic aid agreements with the villages of Homewood, Thornton, and Lynwood.  In the event of a structure fire or an alarm in Glenwood, one or more of these three communities will automatically dispatch a fully-manned fire engine.  Reciprocally, if one of these neighboring municipalities has a structure fire or an alarm, the Glenwood Fire Department will respond to their town.
Ambulance service is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  Bud's Ambulance Service, under contract with the Village, has at least one ambulance stationed in Glenwood at all times.  If a medical emergency call is received at the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, both a Bud's ambulance and Glenwood Fire Department paramedics are dispatched to the scene. The Fire Department has eleven paramedics.

The Fire Department is responsible for regular inspections of commercial properties to ensure that building codes and fire prevention regulations are met.  The Inspection Bureau also conducts health inspections of food service businesses, which are performed on a regular basis.  Capt. George Spanier heads the Inspection Bureau; he can be contacted at 753-2440 during regular business hours or you may e-mail him.

Firefighter Terry Campbell serves as the Fire Department's Public Education Officer and is responsible for a variety of fire prevention and safety programs.  In addition, FF Campbell is a certified child car safety seat technician and is available during regular business hours to evaluate and demonstrate the correct installation of child safety seats in a vehicle.  FF Campbell can be contacted at 753-2440 or e-mail him.

Fire Cadet Program...

The Fire Department is looking for a number of 16 to 18 year olds who wish to participate in a fire cadet program sponsored by the Glenwood Fire Department.  The purpose of the cadet program is to give young people a sense for the work the fire department does in providing emergency services to the Village of Glenwood.  The cadets will be taught some basic fire fighting skills but will not respond on actual fire calls.  They can, however, participate in non-emergency events such as parades, trainings, etc., and can hopefully, transition to paid-on-call firefighter status once they reach 18 years of age.  It will require that the participants attend scheduled meetings approximately once a month for the length of the program.  Applications can be picked up at the Village Hall during normal business hours or Glenwood Fire Station No.1.  You may also call Glenwood Station No.1 at 708-753-2440 during normal business hours for additional information.

Blood Pressure Testing...

The Fire Department conducts free blood pressure tests at the Glenwood Senior Center on the second and last Monday of each month between 10:45am and 11:15am.  High blood pressure is a serious problem but it can  be controlled by diet, exercise or medication.  Only a blood pressure test can tell if you have a problem.  Get one and perhaps save your life.

Child Car Seats...

The State of Illinois requires that infants and children ride buckled up.  More children are killed and injured in car crashes than from any other type of injury.  Using a car seat can prevent many of these injuries but the seat must be correctly installed to be effective.  The Glenwood Fire Department will inspect your seat for for proper fit and installation for free.  Call Fire Fighter Terry Campbell at 708-753-2440 or e-mail  him for an appointment.

Speakers Bureau...

The Glenwood Fire Department will, on request, provide speakers on fire safety for the home or business enviroment.  Please contact FF Terry Campbell at 708-753-2440 or e-mail him for additional information

Smoke Alarm Program...

The Glenwood Fire Department, in conjunction with the National Fire Protection Association, will provide and install on request free smoke detectors to senior citizens in the Village of Glenwood.  As part of an overall safety program for seniors, the Glenwood Fire Department will also, on request, conduct a life safety inspection of a private residence or apartment. To schedule a smoke detector installation or a life safety inspection, please call FF Terry Campbell at 708-753-2440 or e-mail him
